TT-Club TAINAN

Development of Table Tennis in Tainan, Taiwan

TT-Club TainanThe Tainan Table Tennis Training Camp was formed in1980 by Lin Chung-Hsiung. Lin is an architect and a businessman who owns a resort hotel. This camp started with 20 thirteen-year-old players and after three years four of them were elected as national team players.

In 1984 Lin and two young players, Wu Wen-Chia and Huang Huei-Chieh, celebrated their first big success at the U.S.Open. Wu Wen-Chia became champion of the men's singles and together with Huang Huei-Chieh champion of men's doubles. In 1985 Chiang Chieh-Lian from China, who was number one in world men's ranking at that time, was beaten by Wu. In the same year Wu was second of the men's singles at the U.S.Open. From then on, players from Tainan have constantly attended international competitions. More and more young players have been trained there and performed well in games. We can say that for the last twenty years almost all the major male players of the Chinese Taipei Team were from The Tainan Table Tennis Camp.

In1998 Chiang Peng-Lung became an international sports star because of his great success in many competitions. He was number 3 of the world men's ranking list and together with Chang Yen-Shu also number 1 of the world men's doubles in 1999. In 2001 the World Championships were hold in Osaka, Japan. Chiang won the third place of the men's singles and doubles toghether with Chang. In 2002 some young players, from 15 to 17 years old, for example Wu Chih-Chi, San Wen-Wei and Chiang Hung-Chieh were elected as national team players and they began to attend international competitions.
To encourage Lin's effort and contribution on Table Tennis, Tainan City Hall built The Tainan Table Tennis Stadium to fulfil players' training requirements. Lin is in charge of the management of this building.

The Tainan Table Tennis Stadium is a building of four floors including basement. The ground floor provides space for twelve ping pong tables for training or competitions and the basement for eight tables. There are air-conditioners, shower rooms, offices, a coffee shop, gymnasiums and video recording equipment. On the second floor you will find the players' dormitory and a restaurant. The coaches' dormitory and video classroom are on the third floor.

Many table tennis teams from different countries have visited and trained in Tainan, including men's national teams from Japan, Spain, the Netherlands, Austria, the Chinese Cantoness team and youth teams from Sweden. There are also some famous players like Iski Seiko and Matsushita Koji from Japan, Treinko Keen and Danny Heister from the Netherlands, Werner Schlager and Karl Jindrak from Austria who were training here.
Because of the good management and training environment of The Tainan Table Tennis Training Camp, Chinese Taipei National Team always train in Tainan before every important international competition.

Since 1997 the TT-Club TAINAN has been supported by JOOLA and we are proud to have partly contributed to its success. We are confident that the TT-Club TAINAN will be at the forefront of table tennis development in the future.
